Mexico Active and Sport to Hold Boxing Night in León
León, GTO, November 4, 2021. An agreement for the holding of MACS Boxing Night was today signed at a press conference by León´s Professional Boxing Commissioner Martín Godínez Castro; Zanfer Boxing Operating Manager Guillermo Brito Rodríguez; and Mexico Active and Sport Expo (MACS) Director Thorsten Hofmann. The event will take place on December 4, 2021 at the Feria de León Palenque, where the World Boxing Association flyweight title will be up for grabs.
“As part of the MACS 2021 side program of sporting activities, we will be organizing a Boxing Night starring two-time world champion Montserrat “Raya” Alarcón, who will be defending her World Boxing Association flyweight title from former mini flyweight champion Silvia “Guerrerita” Torres. Also, Sergio Chirino Jr. of Oaxaca will be making his international debut in the featherweight category against Alie “Demolition Man” Laurel of the Philippines, as will several promising young boxers from Guanajuato, reflecting the importance of this sport to the state and confirming the international prestige Mexico enjoys in the boxing world,” said Hofmann.
“It is a joy to be able to announce this boxing card, said Godínez, adding that “We would like to thank MACS for organizing this combat, which will help us promote the young boxing promises of Guanajuato.”
“We are gratified to enter into strategic partnerships with organizations like Hannover Fairs México, which are known for staging quality events. We believe the card we are announcing is very exciting. As we saw this weekend, the fight between Jackie Nava and Barby Juarez set a ratings record, which speaks to the current strength of female boxing,” concluded Brito.
Some 20,000 visitors are expected to turn out for the first edition of MACS, which will feature 70 exhibitors and a program of conferences and live demonstrations. In addition to Boxing Night, the event´s side program will include the Mexico Muscle bodybuilding competition, the MACS21k half marathon, the 30×30 GTO challenge, Zumba, yoga and Body Combat workshops and certifications, and a series of free activities and classes.
